Parliament came to Kidderminster this Friday when the former Liberal Democrat President and Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, Simon Hughes MP answered questions from students from across the area's schools and colleges. The event at Baxter College was organised by Wyre Forest Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Neville Farmer. " Simon is one of the hardest working and most respected politicians in Parliament today," said Mr Farmer. "So, this was an ideal opportunity for young people in Wyre Forest to question him about the role of politics in our lives and to find out how they can make a difference, whatever their political persuasion." "Wyre Forest is a fascinating constituency," said Mr Hughes MP, who is currently the Lib Dem Shadow Secretary for Energy and Climate Change, "People here don't automatically vote with the pack, so it was great to meet young people who have strong opinions. I hope that some of them will want to get involved in their community politics. Some of them could well be the world leaders of tomorrow. I'm very grateful to the local schools and especially Baxter College head, David Seddon for helping us put this together." Mr Hughes and Mr Farmer went on to meet local Police Inspector, Paul Crowley and the newly appointed Youth Inclusion Community Support Officer, Vanessa Halford to discuss Wyre Forest's innovative approach to youth crime issues before discussions with Lib Dem and Liberal Councillors, Helen Dyke and Fran Oborski.
