Was Police Consultation a Sham?

7.26.42pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 28th Mar 2006

Residents of Worcestershire were asked if they wanted their West Midlands Police Force to merge with Staffordshire, Warwickshire and West Midlands to form a super force.

The overwhelming verdict was NO. This result of the consultation was put forward to the government by the West Mercia Police Authority and totally ignored. The government decision to merge the forces flies in face of opposition from the Chief Constable, the Police Authority and local councils in the West Mercia Area. These have all opposed this decision. As we said before the service we get now is not perfect but if the forces merge how far down the list will we be when we need a policeman!

Opponents to the merger now have until July 2nd to protest against the decision. Get in touch and tell us what you think so we can put your case forward.
