Worcester Road Report DueWritten by Helen DYke and published in St Marys Focus on Tue 3rd May 2005 As residents will recall Councillor Helen Dyke has been campaigning for some type of pedestrian crossing for the Worcester Road (opposite the Crown and Viaduct public House). She asked for a full traffic count to take place late last year and a full report to be presented to the Highways Agency as soon as possible. She also asked for dropped kerbs to be installed as this road is difficult to cross if you are disabled or have to use a wheelchair or pushchair. Councillor Helen has chased up the report and has found out that the following ideas have been proposed due to her intervention 1) Dropped kerbs be installed at suggested crossing place. 2)Raised studded areas be installed leading up to the dropped kerbs for blind and partially sighted pedestrians. 3) A center island refuge with railings be installed on the road at the same suggested crossing place this should make it safer to cross to the middle of the road. Unfortunately at the moment the traffic count did not show enough need for a pelican crossing at this place. Councillor Helen Dyke says "this is not all that we wanted but it is a start and we will keep up the pressure for a proper crossing in the future".
